code of conduct

Applicability

This Code of Conduct of conduct applies to all members at START Helsinki and everybody that attends any START Helsinki events.

Purpose

START Helsinki is a community filled with people who have different backgrounds. Our biggest asset is our people, as the day-to-day operations are based on our team members volunteering and working together. In order to give everyone the best starting point, everyone at START Helsinki has to understand the type of behavior that is expected.

inclusivity

START Helsinki warmly welcomes and supports people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited to members of any sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, social and economic class, educational level, color, immigration status, sex, age, size, family status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability. We do not accept any behavior or language that is discriminatory as every person at START Helsinki deserves to be treated equally and with respect.

consideration

We all depend on each other to produce the best work we can as an organization. For us to reach our highest potential we need to treat each other with empathy, fairness and kindness. Consider your own actions and words and remember that different people might react differently to various situations. Remember to consider the impact of your actions and treat others with the same respect that you would want to be treated with.

diversity

We can find strength in diversity. Different people have different perspectives on issues, and that can be valuable for solving problems or generating new ideas. Being unable to understand why someone holds a viewpoint doesn’t mean that they’re wrong. Don’t forget that we all make mistakes, and blaming each other doesn’t get us anywhere. Instead, focus on resolving issues and learning from mistakes. It is also pivotal that we do not hold any biases against anyone that might, for instance, alter our perception of them or their work. Such behaviour is never welcomed at STARTHelsinki.
